Qigong Workshop

Qigong Spring Workshop
Beginners and Intermediate Students
Larry Friedberg has over fifty years of training qigong, Larry has devised a set of qigong exercises to nourish, stimulate and exercise the muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. Breathing exercises are used in conjunction with these exercises to allow the vital energy to flow freely through the body, thereby maintaining health and longevity.
During this workshop we will focus on the basic essentials for understanding movement as meditation and will introduce students to the core principles of Qigong
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TAI-CHI AND QIGONG
• Qigong uses simple repetitive or stationery postures and targets healing and stress relief.
• Tai-Chi uses long fixed interconnected postures that require more memorization sequences.
• Qigong is easy for beginners to learn immediately while Tai-Chi has a steeper learning curve because of the intricate postures.
• Qigong involves fewer steps whereas tai-chi requires continuous weight shifts and moving footwork.
• Qigong has gentle breathing exercises focusing on health and relaxation whereas Tai-Chi is more of a choregraphed sequence of movements

Health Benefits
Relaxing and regulating the central nervous system through movement, promotes physical and mental well-being and releases emotional and physical stress accumulated through work or other anxieties. People of all ages can cultivate relaxation, balance, central equilibrium and physical coordination through these gentle and non-jarring exercises. A focus on awareness, understanding, breathing and visualisation techniques will help to promote a deeper sense of relaxation and focus. Through gentle movements like Tai-chi and Qigong which are often referred to as ‘a moving meditation’ or ‘moving in stillness’ or promoting self awareness and self discipline, generates a feeling of well-being, where inner tensions dissolve and the ‘mind’ starts to quiten.
