Larry Friedberg
Principal Instructor - Guide
Larry is a Tai Chi Ambassador who at first borrowing from various internal and meditative traditions, has been able to transcend the culturally bound rules of these traditions to formulate a personal and group method of training involving the physical, energetic and mental aspects of the disciplines, which engenders a deep soul/mind connection. I have been fortunate to have met, lived and trained with various Masters of many traditions. From Grandmaster Motokatsu Inoue (Yui Shin Kai and Ryukyu Kobujutsu), to Sifu Eddie Jardine (The S.A. Tai Chi Association), Sifu Damir Tenodi (Anan-do), Master Yong Fa (Choy Lee-Fut Kung), Patrick Kelly (Patrickkellytaiji) and NinecloudsChina), Mystic Veeresh (Humaniversity Egmond ann Zee) plus Master drummer Michael Narada Walden. I have also immersed myself in the meditation techniques and philosophy of Osho (one of this centuries Masters) via the late Mystic Veeresh with whom I fell in love with (in the early eighties and where I lived and participated in various therapeutic dynamic and vibrant meditations as well as a martial arts system called Osho-Do. Over the past forty-seven years I have continued to train in the internal and therapeutic arts and instruct tai chi classes in and around Sydney for various organisations and public groups.

I have studied taiji, qigong, kick boxing, taekwondo, karate-jutsu, kobu-jutsu, boxing, kick boxing and weapons training. I have lived taught and trained in South Africa, America, Japan, Holland, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand and Australia. I have provided security in San Francisco, South Africa, Japan and Australia both in a private and business capacity for private and corporate clubs and music event organisers. This training has led me to a natural self-confidence, a heightened state of awareness, deeper concentration and an understanding of the different methods of movement (leading to an understanding of meditation and self defence where no other option is available). I have also maintained my musical profession, performing, composing and publishing many of my songs through Adrenalin Sounds Australia and BMG Australia. while simultaneously performing in Broadway Musicals and local and International Bands. Â I have now slowly moved inwards towards sharing the experience of taiji and qigong (and a few self defence courses). My focus now is on the meditative and movement qualities of the internal arts which includes breathing techniques handed down by the various masters who I have been in contact with.

I first discovered tai-chi in a park near San Francisco’s Chinatown almost 47 years ago, while studying music at Berkeley College Berkeley. The movements of the students as they practised under the trees seemed to become one with the branches overhead. Reading Lao Tsu’s ‘Tao Te Ting’ and ‘The I-Ching: assisted my understanding of the philosophical side of tai-chi, and other martial arts systems. On returning to Johannesburg from San Fransisco I discovered and trained with a South African born Chinese Master Sifu Eddie Jardine in Johannesburg.  I hold two black belts in karate-jutsu and kobu-jutsu and two dans in Kobudo and Karatedo (empty hand and weapons). I have found that the path and way of martial arts has protected and nourished my health and kept illness at bay over many years. The first twenty odd years I was studying, training and teaching Sifu Eddie’s system of tai chi, first in Bellevue Hill Public School, Bondi Beach Pavilion and in Centennial Park when I began to study and later teach Master Huang’s System of Taiji through Patrick Kelly.
